No, I am not referring to the looming college football season. Fun is a new trio out of Brooklyn composed of members from The Format, Anathallo, and Steel Train whose sound is big (and fun) enough to remind me of 80's big bands like Styx and Abba while keeping me under the influence of current indie-pop. Listening to their album was like being in the audience of a high-profile, loud, poppy, Broadway sensation. Literally, you could put a costume on and run around your house pretending to be on the big stage. Think Mamma Mia or Hairspray or something along those lines. All this serves to cheapen the album a bit, but somehow the horns, violins, tubas, and toy pianos kept me listening. Hey, it's fun, so why not give it a try. The album is available for full stream here.
